We’re taking a field trip to Pursuit OCR!!! With an obstacle course, a ball pit, slacklines, and ramps, Pursuit OCR provides the first indoor playground for adults. And as graduate students, why shouldn’t we go play, especially after finishing exams, defences, or whatever may have been stressing you out for the semester. So, come join us on April 28th to play around, and maybe even for a little competition on the obstacle course! Here is a link to Pursuit OCR’s website: http://pursuitocr.com/ We will be meeting at GB129 at 4pm SHARP and travelling together on the TTC. The cost is $5 for civil grads (originally $15-20 though!) and you’ll have to pay your own way on the TTC.

Cheap drinks and good food just around the corner from Galbraith, lets celebrate the start of spring and the semester being ‘almost’ over (or actually over for you lucky ones)! VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY: EGG DROP CHALLENGE. The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre is the largest children’s mental health institute in the country, which offers innovative mental health services to infants, children, youth, and their families. For the past two years, students from the Department of Civil Engineering have imparted their design and building skills to children from the centre. Last year, we built towers and bridges using marshmallows and raw spaghetti. The year before, we built various buildings using MegaBloks. This year, we will be running an Egg Drop Challenge on March 4th from 11:30-1:30! You will be paired with a student from the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre. Together, you will design and build a device that will protect a raw egg from breaking when released from a high place. There will be plenty of supplies provided to build your device including straws, balloons, toilet paper rolls, string, and cardboard. At the end, you will test if your raw egg survives! This is a really fun event and an opportunity to give back to the community! Sign up at: eggdropchallenge2016.eventbrite.ca
